The Queen of Hearts by Megan Daniel (1986)

The Queen of Hearts

ONCE WAS QUITE ENOUGH

Mallorie French, Countess of Haye, had been married once–and that once was more than adequate for her. After the death of her charming but faithless young husband, she was determined to enjoy all the single bliss that her title and fortune could grant.

Certainly she had no room in her new liberated life for a man like Tony Howell, the Viscount Rosslyn, whose pulse-raising good looks and appetite for pleasure reminded her all too keenly of the husband who had given her everything but loyalty. Fortunately for her resolution, Rosslyn showed as little taste for a lady so unwilling to surrender her independence as she did for a gentleman so confident of conquest.

Clearly love between this ill-matched pair was the height of folly–no matter what irrational feelings stirred in the depths of their foolish hearts….
